Kitchen Lighting Design Tips
It’s an amazing feeling once you have finished designing or completing your perfect kitchen, everything from the different compartments you have integrated to the perfect set of kitchen tiles.
Did you know that the lighting is one of the most important aspects of your new kitchen? It is what gives an amazing impression to any guests you may have. Because of this, we’ve put together a few tips that we hope will inspire you when it comes to kitchen lighting.
Lighting for Food Preparation
This is sometimes known as task lighting, as it is a lighting design that is used to aid tasks that occur in the kitchen, such as chopping up some delicious vegetables or doing the washing up. Because tasks like food preparation require the most amount of light possible, ideal places for this type of lighting include underneath overhead cabinets, in the centre of the room, etc.
Lighting for Ambience
Having lighting underneath your cabinets is a great way to provide lighting for food preparation, as discussed in the previous section, but it is also great for providing some ambient lighting within your kitchen. This adds both character and warmth. Ambient lighting is great for providing an inviting glow for you and your guests, as well as softening the kitchen environment and making people feel more welcome.
To accomplish this type of lighting, you could implement things such as adjustable lighting around your kitchen or a light fitting that hangs over the centre or a particular part of the room.
Lighting for Casual Gatherings
Modern kitchen designs, usually take the entertainment factor into account. The kitchen is a great social hub where you can invite your friend and family, have a few drinks or have a lovely meal with the people you care about. Because of this, it is important to consider lighting arrangements and fittings to suit your guests and any parties or events you may have.
Some fittings to consider include wall fittings and eyeball lights that can be orientated in a certain direction. It’s also important to consider the brightness of these light fittings – it’s not good if your lights are so bright that they bling your guests. Try and opt for low-voltage lights to highlight certain aspects of your kitchen, such as some artwork or something that you want to show to your guests.
