Porcelain & Ceramic Tile: Are They Right For Me?
While we all know that porcelain and ceramic tiles are the classic go to – they do look great and are so easy to clean after all – but are they actually right for your home or office? And how do you know if they are or aren’t?
Well, that’s a question we’re going to take a look at today by examining the advantages and disadvantages of these famed tiles.
Advantages
Easy –
Most porcelain and ceramic tiles you’ll find will be hard-wearing and easy to maintain over the long term. That means that you’re most likely looking at only one installation job over the time you keep your tiles.
The installation process is incredibly easy as well, meaning even the most amateur DIY’er can put these beautiful looking tiles in their home or office pretty much problem free.
Reliable –
Another upside is that you won’t find the colour fading on your tiles, and you might be pleased to know that they have some hypo-allergenic qualities. You don’t need to worry about pets, spills, or general wear and tear.
Design friendly –
These tiles are very versatile, both in style and selection and can be tried almost anywhere around the house or office. Why not try them on walls and floors, as well as on counters, backsplashes, and shower surrounds.
Disadvantages
Planning ahead –
It seems with porcelain and ceramic tiles, there’s only one major disadvantage, and that’s planning ahead.
When it comes to selecting the tile that’s right for your home or office, you want to be thinking about what kind of tile will not only suit your budget but will also suit you as a person.
While all porcelain and ceramic tiles come from the same family, with similar properties across the board but some can be very different in their appearance and feel, and in their installation and durability.
Traditional ceramic tiles are easier to cut and shape, but porcelain tiles are harder and are more associated with a modern, sleek design.
Some tiles can also be incredibly slippery when wet, so be careful before you install highly glazed tiles on the bathroom floor, especially if you have older adults and younger children in the house.
